Mighty Elanora Eagles

Elanora State School is extremely proud of your win, and also your outstanding sportsmanship on and off the field.
On Friday 13 October, our Senior AFL team travelled to the Sunshine Coast to compete in the AFL QLD Schools Cup finals.
In the opening semi-final, the Elanora Eagles won a very physical game over Algester State School to progress through to Sunday’s grand-final.  Friday night and Saturday saw a month’s worth of rain fall on the Sunshine Coast which kept all players, families and coaching staff on edge, worried about the cancellation of Sunday’s grand-final against St Thomas More Catholic Primary.
Sunday morning arrived with a slight break in the weather, allowing the carnival to go ahead. As the siren sounded to start the game, the skies began to darken as ominous clouds approached from all directions. The players, officials and families bunkered down as the cyclonic weather kicked in. As half time approached, two key players, Jack Stringer and Will Graham, were sidelined with injuries. The boys knew the importance of contesting the footy and put their bodies on the line to push Elanora in front on the score board. The Elanora Eagles remained composed as the rain continued to fall.
As the siren blew, this exceptional team had won their first State Championship 44-1. Nelson Beikoff Smart was awarded best on ground.
A huge thank you to AFL Queensland and Tribal Sport for an amazing event. To the families and coaching staff thank you for your support throughout the year. Congratulations to the team. This is an outstanding achievement. I am sure if you talk to your families and friends, some of their greatest school memories will come from sporting events shared with their best friends.
