Elanora State School prides itself on the way Indigenous Perspectives and Practices are authentically embedded throughout our curriculum and pedagogy.
We provide learning experiences that work towards helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students become stronger and smarter in their journey through lifelong learning. These learning experiences also provide our non-indigenous students with opportunities to gain knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander history and culture.
Our staff are all familiar with and committed to the Department of Education’s Commitment Statement.
Yugambeh Language
Teachers and students actively use our local language, Yugambeh, within the classroom and school setting. A Yugambeh Word of the Week is available for all teachers to share with their classes.
Indigenous students participate in Language Groups with Ms Melissa Appo. These lessons have been designed by the Yugambeh Museum. Students are then encouraged to share the knowledge with their family and peers.

Prep Orange were proud winners of the ABC Indigenous Language Song Competition. The judges loved our entry, and the involvement, enthusiasm, effort and creativity of all the students.
Due to our hard work and commitment in helping to revive Indigenous Languages, we were selected by the Yugambeh Museum to host the re-birthing of Borobi from the mascot of the Commonwealth games to an Indigenous Language Champion.
