NAPLAN 2019

Elanora State

 The  National Assessment Program — Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests were first implemented in 2008. Students in Years 3 and 5 are tested in the areas of numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, punctuation and grammar.

The NAPLAN tests are designed to assess the skills of students in literacy and numeracy.

The following areas of literacy are assessed:

Language conventions - spelling, grammar and punctuation

Writing - knowledge and control of written language

Reading - comprehension.

In Numeracy, the content assessed are:

Number and algebra

Measurement and geometry

Statistics and probability

 

Elanora State School has always been a high performing in NAPLAN. Our 2019 results shoo that our Year 3 and 5 student have performed above the National cohort in Reading, Writing, Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy.

In 2020 Elanora State School will transition to NAPLAN online.

Reach Assessments

In 2019, students in Years 4, 5 and 6 were invited to participate in REACH assessments in Science, Spelling, English and Mathematics.

Reach Assessments are annual assessments which provide an external, objective benchmark of learner progress and are run in conjunction with the UNSW GLOBAL.

REACH assessments are suitable for all students, targeting a wide range of ability, whilst still providing challenges.

REACH Assessments are undertaken in Terms 2 and 3 and students receive a report and certificate of accomplishment.

2019 Elanora State School REACH results were:

Spelling52 students participated and were awarded 3 outstanding, 15 commendable, 6 good effort and 28 participation  certificates.
Science

47 students participated and were awarded 2 exemplary, 7 outstanding, 18 commendable, 3 good effort and 17 participation certificates.

English

55 students participated and were awarded 8 outstanding, 17 commendable, 6 good effort and 24 participation certificates.

Mathematics

68 students participated and were awarded 1outstanding, 17 commendable, 15 good effort and 35 participation certificates                                                                                                                                                                                                                                

 

Speechmakers 2019

This year students in Prep – Year 6 had the opportunity to participate in the Speechmakers Competition. One finalist per year level was selected and had the honour of representing Elanora State School in the Southern Gold Coast Schools Coalition Speechmakers Competition, with students from nine local schools attending. The competition was fierce and many fantastic speeches were presented on the day.
Elanora students represented the school with pride. Our Year 3 and Year 5 students both winning their entire year level competition. Students in Years 1, 2 and 6 were awarded as runners up in their year levels. Special mention was made by our judges by our representatives in Prep and Year 4. Students had a wonderfully day and did a brilliant job presenting their speeches

Sporting Achievements

At Elanora we strive to engage our students in both social and competitive sporting events and carnivals. Students compete in Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming events throughout the year. Our senior students have the opportunity to compete in the Gold Coast South Interschool Sport competitions throughout semester 1 and 2. As a school there is nothing more rewarding than seeing our students succeed in the sporting arena and sharing these experiences with their friends.
